Providence area movie-goers can now see first run IMAX DMR® films on day of release.
DEDHAM, Mass., -- January 3, 2008 -- National Amusements, Inc., a world leader in the motion picture exhibition industry operating more than 1,500 screens in the U.S., U.K., Latin America and Russia, today announced the completion of their purchase of the Feinstein IMAX® Theatre in Providence, Rhode Island from IMAX Corporation. Under the terms of the sale, National Amusements assumed ownership and control of the theatre effective December 31, 2007. The company owns and operates nine IMAX theatres in the U.S., South America and Russia. The theater, which is located adjacent to the companies Providence Place Cinemas 16, employs 16 staff members; all employees who wish to stay have been offered opportunities at the theater.
This was an opportune time for National Amusements to acquire the IMAX theatre since the movie industry is offering more and more large format film options for movie-goers to enjoy Being able to run the specialized product typical of IMAX theatres and presentations of commercial films such as I Am Legend and the upcoming U2 3D, first in IMAX 3D, followed later in Digital 3D, provides to the Greater Providence area moviegoers a broader range of entertainment, helping to make this an even more important entertainment and educational destination location. Movie-goers can also expect the same superior customer service and atmosphere recognized as a standard for the industry and which they enjoy at the Providence Place Cinemas 16.
On Friday, January 4, 2008, the theater is opening with I Am Legend in IMAX. General admission is $14.50, bargain matinees (all shows prior to 6:00 p.m.) $12.00; children eleven and under and seniors over sixty are $12.00.
